Chapter Eight

MELVIN

I laid in my bed watching Tiffany sleep peacefully. This girl was amazing in every way. She was a natural born hustler, smart, a good cook, and a freak in the bed. Even with her having all of those qualities, I was still lusting over Nuriyah. It was something about that girl that made me want to have her in my life. I rubbed my hand over my face as I stared at the ring I placed on Tiffany’s finger months ago. I can’t marry her any time soon, I thought.

Who was I fooling? Nobody but myself. I loved Tiffany no doubt, but I was in love with Nuriyah and couldn't anybody tell me any different. For some reason, I couldn't get Nuriyah out of my mental. It feels like I have to protect her, from what I don’t know. Maybe it’s because her father took care of me by showing me the game. Her father and my father were best friends. They both came into the game together, but only one is still standing. Unfortunately, my father was killed in a drug deal gone wrong. I lost my father at the age of 10 and had to become a man before my time. I had to hold the household down for me and my younger brother because our mother stayed pulling a ghost move whenever she got a hold of that crack pipe.

Trying my best not to wake my girl, I eased out of the bed we shared and scooped up my phone from the dresser. I walked downstairs out of Tiffany's ear reach, then dialed Nuriyah's cell. I took Nuriyah’s number out of Tiffany's phone since she never called me after I gave her my number. Some fuck boy shit I know, but I was truly worried about her and missing her. Theo told me all about her and Sincere’s break up so it was time I made my move. I wanted so badly to tell Theo I was in love with his daughter, but I know he wouldn’t approve of our relationship. He has seen so many women in and out of my life; he was surprised I kept Tiffany around for this long.

Sitting down at the kitchen bar stool, I dialed Nuriyah’s number without blocking my number. My heart was racing rapidly for the first time when it came to a girl. Listening to the phone ring felt like a lifetime. I was about to hang up until I heard her sweet voice mellow.

“Hello,” Nuriyah answered sleepily.

“Yo, what’s up beautiful?” I spoke pleasantly in almost a whisper. In the beginning, I was really aggressive with her, but I wanted to show her another side of me.

“Who is this?" she asked.

“Let me find out you deleted my number when I put it in your phone. This Melvin," I confidently stated.

The phone went quiet. I pulled the phone from my ear to make sure she didn’t hang up. When I noticed she didn’t, I asked, “ Nuriyah are you still there?”

“Yes, I'm still here Melvin,” she said.
